Tete-a-Tete with Sonalika Sahay

If you are into Fashion or even if you are not, there is only a slight chance that you may have not seen this face somewhere.

Mostly she can be seen walking the ramp for the top notch Indian designers, and when is not doing that, she is shooting for  magazine covers or commercials. You may remember her from Christian Dior watches campaign in India, or TVC of Lifestyle stores, Maruti Esteem, Seagrams fuel etc I specifically remember her from her Elle cover, when I spotted her for the first time. So when I got to know I’ll be Styling her for a shoot, obviously I was excited and when I met her in person finally, I was totally taken aback. Not only because she is pretty without makeup too, but also because she is humble, cheery, fun and so carefree that you almost forget she is a supermodel too. So we chit chatted and here’s what we discovered about svelte diva, who is not just a pretty face but now an entrepreneur too!

Hope you enjoy the tete-a-tete, Happy reading fellas! 😉

What is Fashion to you?

Fashion for me is different things on different days, but if I were to define my style, then it will be comfortably chic. For me Fashion has to be comfortable.

You’ve been in the industry for about 9 years now, what are the changes that you’ve observed over the time

There has been some phenomenal changes. At the time when I started everything was chaotic and Indian Fashion industry was still in its initial stages, but things have changed now, there is more professionalism than ever. People know what they are doing, and I guess we, as an industry, are in a happy space right now.

Who is your favorite Indian Designer

That’s a tough one, but still if I have to name one, then I’ll say Rahul Mishra, I love how he works the fusion and brings out the eccentricity in his styles.  I also like Tarun Tahiliani‘s designs a lot.

Who is your style icon?

I don’t follow any particular style icon per say, but I love how Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie dress up.

One thing you love about your job.

It provides me with ample opportunities to travel. I love exploring new places and when you’re a model, you get to travel to exotic locations.

You co-own an e-commerce venture, Style Arrest. Tell us something about that.

Style Arrest is a platform where you find access to top designer labels, but what makes it unique is that you can also spot some really eccentric garments, handcrafted accessories and stuff that are region specific, which you may not find online anywhere else.

My vision for Style Arrest, is to bring talented designers on board, who are trying to do something unique, something new.

Tell us one show that you walked for and cannot forget about it.

It has to be my first show ever, when I walked for designer Tarun Tahiliani at the Bombay Fashion Week. I had just come to India and it was my first show here, I was also the showstopper. I think that show still holds a very special place in my heart, I have fond memories of that day.
